If Lewis Hamilton wins a title with Ferrari, it could cement his status as F1’s greatest driver ever—an iconic end to his career.
Lando Norris believes that if Lewis Hamilton wins a championship with Ferrari, it would settle the debate—he’d be the greatest driver in F1 history.
“It would be incredible to see Lewis win in red,” said the McLaren driver. “That would make him the most successful F1 driver ever. No one could dispute it. Winning an eighth title with Ferrari would be the perfect ending to his career.”
McLaren vs. Ferrari: The Rivalry Intensifies
Heading into the season-opening Australian Grand Prix, Norris and McLaren are among the favorites after an impressive pre-season. Their race simulations looked strong, even outpacing Ferrari, where Charles Leclerc has so far been quicker than Hamilton.
Norris has never battled Hamilton for a world title, but he knows how much a Ferrari championship would mean—not just for Hamilton but for the sport itself. The last time a Ferrari driver lifted the trophy was in 2007, and Hamilton has the chance to break his tie with Michael Schumacher by securing a historic eighth crown.
“Ferrari is Always a Threat”
Despite McLaren’s momentum, Norris isn’t underestimating Ferrari. “They’ve been one of the most competitive teams for the last 10, 20, even 30 years. You can never count them out.”
Last season, both teams followed a similar trajectory, but McLaren managed to pull ahead. Still, Ferrari has stepped up, making big changes in leadership and improving their overall package. “They’ve made real progress, so I expect a strong fight—not just from them but also from Mercedes and, of course, Red Bull.”
Ferrari finished 2023 as arguably McLaren’s biggest rival, even more so than Red Bull. For Norris, that only adds to the excitement. “Taking on the team in red will be a huge challenge, and facing Charles and Lewis makes it even better.”
“If We Have to Lose, At Least Let It Be to Lewis”
Though Norris is fully focused on McLaren’s title ambitions, he admits that if Ferrari were to win, seeing Hamilton take the crown would at least be a silver lining. “I’d love to see it—if we had to lose to Ferrari… which I obviously don’t want!”
But there’s still a long season ahead, and for Norris, the battle is just getting started.
