Vasseur: Mixed Feelings Despite Ferrari’s Podium Finish

02/07/2024

Ferrari experienced a weekend of mixed emotions in Austria, with Carlos Sainz securing a podium while Charles Leclerc faced early race setbacks.

Ferrari faced another challenging weekend in Austria, with performances placing them as the fourth force behind Red Bull, McLaren F1, and Mercedes. Team principal Frédéric Vasseur was pleased with Carlos Sainz’s podium finish but lamented Charles Leclerc’s spoiled race.

“The race gives us mixed feelings because it’s positive to see Carlos back on the podium with a solid race and good points for the championship, but we didn’t score with Charles, who was involved in a racing incident at the start,” noted Vasseur.

“So overall, it’s not a bad weekend, even though there’s some frustration as we probably could have done better, especially at the beginning. We’ve made a good step forward since Friday morning, but it’s not enough, and we need to keep pushing because we need both cars fighting for maximum points at every race.”

The Frenchman believes that the Scuderia must improve its qualifying performance to fight at the front. He also remarked that the overall level in Formula 1 is impressive and the show is very present.

“Once again, we need to work on improving our qualifying pace because starting closer to the front in such a tight field means having a better chance to finish ahead, seize opportunities, and avoid trouble.”

“One last word on this weekend: seeing such a close fight for the lead, with drivers really pushing each other, ending with an unexpected winner, while other equally exciting battles were happening further down the field, is certainly very good for the sport’s popularity.”
