Ferrari grapples with an unexpected performance dip in China, as team boss Vasseur vows to decode the issues before Miami.

Ferrari faced its first setback of the season in China, where the team missed the podium for the first time this year. Team principal Frédéric Vasseur explained that the race was compromised by poor qualifying the day before.

“In terms of position I don’t know, we didn’t start from good places on the grid. But we expected better in terms of pace, we lacked it and we need to understand why before the next race,” Vasseur stated.

“It was a tough weekend, we hadn’t used the mediums and hards before. But that’s no excuse at all, we need to do a better job and we’ll be back in Miami,” continued Vasseur, detailing the team’s strategy.

“Charles had a strange race because we wanted to do two stops, then just one. We had to push then be conservative and we paid the price. But that’s how it is, we had a good pace on Saturday and we were not far from Red Bull. It was harder today and we need to understand why.”

When asked about the results Ferrari aims for in Miami in two weeks, Vasseur remained cautious: “Since the start of the season, if you set Max aside, it’s very tight.”

“In qualifying, we have six or seven cars within the same tenth of a second. For details, you can start on the front row or tenth, so we avoid making predictions and focus on doing a better job.”
