Ferrari Warned Hamilton’s Struggles Raise Concerns

Coulthard Slams Hamilton as 2024’s Biggest Letdown

12/01/2025

Coulthard calls Hamilton 2024’s “biggest disappointment” and warns Ferrari about his underwhelming performances despite high expectations.

Former F1 driver David Coulthard has labeled Lewis Hamilton as the “biggest disappointment” of 2024, a statement he acknowledges as “controversial.”

The seven-time world champion dropped to seventh place in last year’s drivers’ standings, scoring 22 points fewer than George Russell.

It was the young Briton who had the upper hand over Hamilton, both in points and in one-lap battles. Russell outqualified Hamilton 19-5 and also outperformed the new 40-year-old 15-9 in races.

“I’d say Lewis is the biggest disappointment of 2024,” Coulthard declared.

“I know it’s controversial because he’s a seven-time world champion and a true winning machine, but I’ve never seen this Lewis in Formula 1.”

“He was clearly beaten in qualifying, whereas great drivers always find speed somewhere to pull off a strong qualifying lap when it really matters.”

The former Red Bull driver believes Ferrari should be concerned about Hamilton’s performance, despite Frédéric Vasseur stating otherwise.

“Ferrari, of course, signed him at the beginning of 2024, and everyone was very excited back then. Ferrari’s stock rose so quickly it erased all the costs associated with Lewis’ arrival.”

“But Formula 1 is still a sport heavily reliant on data. The stopwatch doesn’t lie, and for now, it’s not delivering the expected results in terms of lap times. So, they must be a bit concerned.”

“But sometimes, change is also good. Maybe Hamilton’s move to Ferrari, donning that red suit, will work in the same way as Superman putting on his cape. It will be an exciting period to watch, no matter what.”
