Ferrari’s bold 2025 car and Vasseur’s critique of F1’s overloaded calendar set the stage for a high-stakes season ahead.
Ferrari will unveil its 2025 car on February 19, following the grand F1 75 launch event in London. During the event, the Scuderia will showcase its 2025 livery on the 2024 car before revealing the new vehicle.
When asked about the risks Ferrari is taking to achieve strong performance in 2025 and whether the gamble will pay off, the team principal remained cautious.
“We’ll know in Bahrain,” said Vasseur. “Sometimes, you don’t feel like you’re taking risks, and you realize later it was very risky. The car will be completely new. I think we have less than 1% of parts in common. It’s a different project, but that’s true for everyone.”
No public events are expected to mark Lewis Hamilton’s arrival at Ferrari. The Briton will test an older F1 car at Fiorano and also participate in Pirelli tests.
“We need to focus on the season. The period between the first day and the launch is very short—it’s just a matter of weeks—and I want everyone focused on performance.”
“We’ll have the season launch and the car launch. For me, that’s already two events, and that’s far too many. It’s plenty. I want to focus on development performance, not putting on a show.”
Similarly, the Frenchman is cautious about Ferrari’s potential status ahead of the 2025 season: “I don’t care because you can be the favorite in January or February, [but] if you’re not there for the first race, everyone will forget.”
The Frenchman predicts a tightly contested 2025 season, one that cannot be anticipated based on the form shown at the end of 2024: “I think the fight between the top four… I think it will change from one race to another, from one circuit to another, from one compound to another, or from one temperature to another.”
“This means every parameter will make a huge difference. When you have four teams separated by one or two tenths, the fact that we were in good form in November will have no impact on the result in Melbourne 2025.”
“We have to start from scratch. Certainly, we have a reference, but it will be a new battle, a new championship, and starting in January, I’ll focus on the future and Melbourne, not on what we did two months earlier.”
