Flavio Briatore criticizes Ferrari’s decision to replace Carlos Sainz with Lewis Hamilton, questioning the logic behind breaking their strong duo.
Briatore has questioned Ferrari’s decision to sign Lewis Hamilton instead of Carlos Sainz for the 2025 season and beyond.
Hamilton’s move to Ferrari was announced on the eve of last season, ending his long-standing association with Mercedes F1.
Hamilton will make his Ferrari debut at the Australian Grand Prix in March as he chases a record-breaking eighth world title.
Briatore, an executive advisor to Alpine F1, admitted, “It will be strange to see Lewis in the Ferrari.”
“Of course, I respect such decisions, but I also wonder if it makes sense. Ferrari had two top drivers, Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz.”
“I don’t understand why they split up this great duo. It’s not my job to judge, but if I were in a position of responsibility at Ferrari, I wouldn’t have signed Lewis.”
“In principle, it’s a good thing for Formula 1 that Lewis is driving for Ferrari. And anything good for Formula 1 is good for me too. It’s certainly good for TV and ratings as well.”
“Let’s wait and see. Time will tell if he drives the Ferrari well.”
