Carlos Sainz prepares for his Williams F1 debut, driving the FW46 in Abu Dhabi’s post-season test following Ferrari’s early release.

Williams F1 has confirmed that Carlos Sainz will drive for the team during the post-season tests, scheduled to take place in Abu Dhabi on the Tuesday following the season’s final race. Ferrari has approved the early release of its driver to allow him to join his new team.

The Grove-based team states this will provide the Spaniard an opportunity to “take the first steps in his preparation for the 2025 season.” The 30-year-old will drive the FW46 during the test day.

Alongside him, Williams will field a young driver, although Franco Colapinto is no longer eligible as his full-time season has stripped him of rookie status.

For Sainz, this will be a chance to establish initial groundwork to smoothly begin his collaboration with the new team and familiarize himself with his new environment ahead of the 2025 season alongside Alex Albon.

Thus, the remarkable chapter between Ferrari and Carlos Sainz will close the moment he steps into the cockpit of the Williams for his first test.

Leaving behind the legacy and prestige of the Prancing Horse, Sainz embarks on a fresh journey with another team rich in history and iconic moments. It marks the end of an era and the beginning of a new challenge.

For Sainz, this is more than a transition; it’s an opportunity to carry forward the experience gained at Ferrari and apply it to a team eager to reclaim its legendary status in Formula 1.
