Ferrari boss Fred Vasseur admits Hamilton’s pole in Shanghai Sprint was unexpected, raising questions over form, pace gaps, and consistency.
Ferrari team principal Fred Vasseur admitted he’s still trying to make sense of Lewis Hamilton’s surprise Sprint pole in Shanghai this morning.
“It’s definitely better than last weekend, but honestly, it’s tough to read from one session to the next,” Vasseur said. “Sometimes McLaren had a huge gap, other times it was much smaller. We need to dive into the data – there’s a lot of work ahead.”
While he acknowledged the positive boost the result gives Hamilton and the team, Vasseur couldn’t help but keep his expectations grounded.
“Of course, it’s a great feeling and it brings good energy to Lewis and the team. But I still tend to focus on what didn’t go right.”
With the Sprint format offering more points this weekend, Vasseur knows consistency will be key.
“Lewis being fastest in both SQ1 and SQ3 shows strong pace over multiple runs, and that’s encouraging. We just need to turn that into results.”
