Leclerc: Ferrari’s Strong Half Despite Errors

02/08/2024

Leclerc credits Ferrari’s resilience in overcoming errors for a successful season start.

Charles Leclerc enters the summer break with some satisfaction. The Ferrari driver believes he could not have hoped for better after this substantial first half of the 2024 season.

The Monegasque finished third at the Belgian Grand Prix, moving up one position after George Russell was disqualified from the race.

This podium was Leclerc’s first since his home victory in Monaco, after which Ferrari experienced a slump in form.

“Our first half of the season was really good, I think we couldn’t have hoped for better,” Leclerc said when asked to assess the mid-point.

“We maximized the car’s potential. Then, we had four races where we went from one extreme setup to another.”

“And for me, it was simply impossible to come into qualifying and know where the car’s limit was. And we lost a lot of points because of that. But we had to try things.”

After a tough period before Spa, Leclerc feels that Ferrari has made progress, but acknowledges that the team is simply not able to consistently compete at the front.

“In the last two races, we focused again on optimizing results, and I think we managed that, but not quickly enough.”

“So that’s what we really need to focus on and make a step forward for the second half of the season if we want to achieve better results.”
