Ferrari confirms Loïc Serra as new chassis director, taking over from Enrico Cardile.
Ferrari has confirmed that Loïc Serra has been appointed as the new technical director for the Formula 1 team’s chassis once he completes his negotiated notice period with Mercedes F1 (in October).
Before the summer break, Ferrari announced that Enrico Cardile was leaving his position as technical director to transfer to Aston Martin F1.
Vasseur has taken on the responsibilities associated with this role since Cardile’s departure but had revealed that news of a restructuring would be announced after Monza.
Ferrari has now confirmed that Cardile’s former position within the technical department has been entrusted to Serra, who will start working in Maranello next month.
The Italian brand revealed earlier this season that it had recruited the Frenchman from its F1 rivals to become its head of chassis performance engineering.
But in his new role, Serra, who was responsible for vehicle performance at Mercedes, will report to Vasseur and will be in charge of overseeing several technical divisions.
“Scuderia Ferrari HP announces that it has entrusted the role of technical director of the chassis to Loïc Serra.”
“As previously announced, the French engineer, born in 1972, will join the team on October 1st. Loïc, in this new role, will be directly reporting to the team director, Fred Vasseur.”
“Serra will thus be responsible for the following departments: Chassis Project Engineering, led by Fabio Montecchi; Vehicle Performance, led by Marco Adurno; Aerodynamics, led by Diego Tondi; Track Engineering, led by Matteo Togninalli; and Chassis Operations, led by Diego Ioverno, who also retains the role of sporting director.”
“The role of technical director of engines continues to be held by Enrico Gualtieri, who reports directly to Fred Vasseur.”
This announcement appears to further confirm that Adrian Newey has indeed declined to join Scuderia and is heading to Aston Martin F1. An announcement is expected next Tuesday (read here).
