Farewell Sainz - Welcome Hamilton Changing of the Guard

An Emotional Farewell: Sainz Leaves Ferrari, Hamilton Ushers a New Era

02/01/2025

Carlos Sainz bids an emotional goodbye to Ferrari, making way for Lewis Hamilton in a landmark move for the Scuderia.

Carlos Sainz thanked Ferrari and especially the fans for their “incredible support” as he bids farewell to the Scuderia and moves to Williams F1.

His departure from Ferrari became official on January 1, with Lewis Hamilton replacing him by moving from Mercedes to Maranello — a transfer announced last February but taking effect contractually from early 2025.

Sainz had the opportunity for a final drive on Ferrari’s private Fiorano test track in December, alongside his father, Carlos Sainz Sr.

“The legacy of Ferrari, the history books, and everything else — I think that’s something I’ll reflect on more when I retire,” Sainz admitted.

“When I’m sitting on my couch, as an older version of myself, I’ll think, ‘That was cool, I was one of them, and I’m part of Ferrari’s history.’ And I think all of that will resonate more strongly later in my career.”

“Right now, I’m so focused on winning, the daily grind, and everything else that I don’t have time to dwell on those things.”

Sainz also read a selection of messages from Ferrari fans wishing him well in his future career, all highly complimentary about his time with the Scuderia.

“I’m reading all the letters I’ve received from Scuderia Ferrari fan clubs. I’ve read each one, and I just wanted to say a big thank you for the words you’ve used.”

“It’s an honor for me to see how much you care for me and how much you’ve supported me over these years.”

“It makes me even happier to see, from what you’ve written, that you’ll continue cheering for me a little even after my departure from Scuderia Ferrari.”

“For that, I thank you again for the incredible support you’ve given me. Ciao.”

Meanwhile, Lewis Hamilton has yet to comment in words but has shared symbolic photos: one of himself as a child in karting gear, wearing a red helmet and suit, and another of him skiing in a red outfit. A powerful symbol!
