F1 star Daniel Ricciardo faces increasing challenges, hinting at retirement after a subdued exit from RB F1.
Daniel Ricciardo was officially sidelined at RB F1, having had a quiet farewell as there was no official decision made about this when he was in Singapore.
However, it turns out the Australian knew it, Liam Lawson did too (see our previous information), and he explained that he also felt the end of his career approaching.
“At some point, it will come for all of us. I tried to return to Red Bull, it didn’t work out, so I have to also say to myself, ‘Okay, what else am I doing here and what am I trying to achieve?'” Ricciardo stated.
“I think when you experience the emotion of a win, you can’t just be content with fighting for a 10th place for too long. There’s nothing like that feeling, and if that’s no longer possible, and if it becomes a bit harder, I think that’s the truth.”
“This year, I’ve had some maybe extraordinary moments, but it was harder to do week after week. Maybe it’s because I’m 35 years old, maybe it’s because the competition is getting stronger, who knows?”
After ups and downs, he particularly recalls the warning Jackie Stewart gave him: “Sometimes I felt it was much easier. I remember, actually, it was in Singapore in 2014, it was my breakthrough year, and Sir Jackie Stewart caught me in the lobby, and I remember he told me something.”
“He said, ‘Listen, if you ever want to talk, let me know, because it won’t always be as easy as it looks.’ He was preparing me to face the hardships. I was so happy and, okay, I didn’t win the championship that year, but everything seemed easy.”
“I’m exaggerating, it’s obviously not easy, so when he told me that, I wondered why he said it. Then 2015 was a tough year, and I immediately understood what he was talking about. I think you should never be too high, never be too low, just try to ride the wave. But yes, you need to keep your feet on the ground.”
