NASCAR, Supercars ? Ricciardo Discusses His Future

23/09/2024

F1 star Daniel Ricciardo reveals his aspirations for NASCAR, Supercars, and more as he contemplates his career’s next phase.

Daniel Ricciardo is trying to remain in Formula 1, though he acknowledges that his premier class career is in its twilight. The RB F1 driver was asked about his future desires and admits he is drawn to NASCAR, though he’s not certain about competing.

“I grew up as a fan of NASCAR,” Ricciardo stated. “I’d like to drive a NASCAR, perhaps race at Daytona. But do I want to compete in it?”

“Yes and no. I know it’s not what I grew up doing and I’d probably get smoked. So, I’m not sure if I need it, but I’d like to experience it.”

The Australian is curious about motorcycles but admits that professionally it wouldn’t appeal to him: “I love motorcycles… but I would be very, very slow and probably terrible.”

Australian Supercars also attract him, yet he struggles to see himself pursuing a career there. Particularly, the Bathurst circuit holds significant appeal for an Australian.

“Obviously, they race V8s there, but you know there are the 12 hours and other events, so maybe I could participate. If a V8 team said, ‘hey, do you want to do a few laps at Bathurst, no pressure, just to experience it,’ I would accept without hesitation.”

Although he lives in Monaco and enjoys cities like Miami or Las Vegas, Ricciardo envisions retiring in a city in Western Australia: “I could see myself retiring in Margaret River one day. I love the lifestyle… It’s a breath of fresh air, everything slows down.”

“I think everyone is so connected to the place, to the land… Everyone feels so free and happy. The lifestyle there perfectly aligns with my vision of retirement.”
