F1 drivers and team bosses praise Stefano Domenicali’s contract extension, hailing his leadership as key to the sport’s continued success.
Formula 1 drivers have warmly welcomed the news that Stefano Domenicali will remain as the sport’s President and CEO until 2029. Liberty Media confirmed his five-year contract extension, reinforcing stability in F1’s leadership.
Seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton was among the first to praise Domenicali’s impact on the sport.
“It’s amazing to see Formula 1 grow—its audience, its reach, its evolution in the right direction. And to see Stefano renew his contract is fantastic,” Hamilton said at the season-opening Australian Grand Prix.
“Thank God he’s staying. It’s important to have a strong, neutral leader at the helm.”
Defending champion Max Verstappen echoed Hamilton’s sentiments, emphasizing his personal connection with Domenicali.
“This is great news for Formula 1. First and foremost, Stefano is a fantastic person. I get along really well with him, and I’m really happy he’ll be around longer.”
Local hero Oscar Piastri also shared his appreciation for Domenicali’s open-minded approach to the drivers.
“I think his contribution to the sport has been widely recognized. He always keeps his door open to us, and he’s very accessible, always listening to our ideas and concerns. I’m really happy he’s staying.”

Like Hamilton, George Russell highlighted F1’s rapid growth under Domenicali’s leadership.
“This is great news. Formula 1 has been at its absolute best since Stefano took over, and it keeps improving.”
“He’s constantly looking for ways to push the sport forward. Even though F1 is at a peak right now, he’s not stopping—he’s thinking about the future, about how to sustain this growth. With a stable and transparent leader like him, I think all teams and drivers fully support his vision.”
Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff also expressed his admiration for Domenicali’s leadership.
“Stefano’s track record speaks for itself. Since he became F1’s CEO, the sport has only moved forward.”
“What I appreciate about him is his deep understanding of the business. He’s seen it from all angles—leading Ferrari as a team principal, running Lamborghini as a CEO—so he knows both the competitive and corporate sides of the industry.”
“Honestly, he’s the perfect mix of what an F1 CEO should be. Trustworthy, reliable, straightforward… It’s fantastic for Formula 1 that he’s staying for another five years.”
With unanimous backing from the paddock, Domenicali’s extended tenure promises to keep F1 on its upward trajectory—both on and off the track.
