Max Verstappen, three-time F1 champion, applauds Isack Hadjar’s strong performance and his series of victories in Formula 2.
Max Verstappen Commends Isack Hadjar’s Dominance in Formula 2. Triple Formula One World Champion Max Verstappen has been keeping a keen eye on Red Bull’s junior drivers and praised the recent achievements of Frenchman Isack Hadjar, who has clinched four wins this season and has tested for Red Bull Racing.
“Of course, I see him around with the team, he’s driven the car several times,” Verstappen noted. “And he’s doing an excellent job. He faced some bad luck at the start of the season. But he’s doing what’s necessary. And then, of course, it’s up to the management to decide.”
However, Hadjar is not the only F2 driver Verstappen has been watching, as revealed by Clément Novalak. The French driver shared that he had previously received advice from the Dutchman, who had watched one of his laps and analyzed a Formula 2 qualifying session.
“Personally, I like Max because he’s a no-nonsense driver; he comes to the track, gets in the car, drives, and that’s it,” Novalak told the Track Limits podcast. “A lot of people don’t like that because they don’t get to know the guy properly.”
“But he’s one of the few guys who, when I first met him through a friend, turned to me and said, ‘if you hadn’t messed up in sector 2 in qualifying, you could have done a much better job, mate. You could have been in the top five!'”
Amused, Novalak admitted he didn’t expect to receive advice from the Dutchman: “I thought, ‘damn, you know who I am?’ We then talked for a good half an hour about the race as a whole. And the fact that a double world champion, or a world champion at the time, gives you that time, it’s rare.”
“In F1, they are obviously very busy and focused, they don’t have much time, and there are probably two or three drivers like that, who don’t change. If you want to talk about a driver who is a true motorsport fan, it’s Verstappen.”
