Domenicali Gives F1 Season 8/10, Eyes 2025 Boost

24/12/2024

Stefano Domenicali scores 2024 season an 8 but expects 2025 to surpass it, citing progress and exciting changes ahead.

Stefano Domenicali, CEO of Formula 1, gave a solid rating to the 2024 season.

One might have expected a higher score from the Italian, considering the much tighter championship battle, but he wants to leave room for improvement.

“Regarding the season, I would rate it an 8 [out of 10]. But I believe next year could earn an even higher score because we have all the ingredients for a great show.”

“We will also have many young drivers on the grid, reflecting the positive momentum for our sport.”

As an Italian and a former Ferrari team principal, Domenicali was naturally asked about Lewis Hamilton joining Ferrari. Will it boost viewership?

“He will bring a lot of interest. He’s learning Italian to understand how to integrate into our culture. I told him it’s essential for him to be able to do so. At Ferrari, he’ll be in an environment different from what he’s used to.”

Domenicali added that Leclerc might need to adapt to having a personality like Hamilton as a teammate.

“Charles will, of course, need to accept that someone of Lewis’s stature is not an easy teammate. On the other hand, Lewis will undoubtedly bring his positivity to the effort of chasing his record eighth title. They respect each other greatly, and I hope they continue to do so at the end of the year. It would be better for everyone!”

Domenicali also emphasized the room for improvement in his rating, pointing to F1’s continuous evolution, its expansion into untapped regions, and technical advancements as part of its long-term strategy.

“The next goal? I want to consolidate the growth we’ve experienced in recent years, even in countries or continents where we’re not yet as strong and established as in others.”

“And then there are the technical aspects, such as new sustainable fuels, and the F1 film [with Brad Pitt, set to release in 2025]. This will take us into a new dimension in terms of audience reach.”
