Haas F1 driver Oliver Bearman anticipates a challenging Monaco Grand Prix, with qualifying and two-stop strategy set to shape the race.
Oliver Bearman is looking forward to discovering the Monaco circuit at the wheel of a Formula 1 car this weekend during the Grand Prix held in the Principality. The Haas F1 driver nonetheless expects a challenging weekend.
“It’s exciting to drive here, it was one of the best moments of my F2 season and it will be a different experience in a Formula 1 car. It will be a tough challenge that the streets of this city will give us, but I’m looking forward to taking it on,” said Bearman.
Strategy, Luck, and Qualifying
The Briton shares the general view among drivers that the two mandatory pit stops will offer unique strategic opportunities. However, he does not yet know what those will be, as they will depend on the qualifying position.
“It will affect things and make the race interesting. The most important thing is to qualify well, and then we will see what to do, as the race will depend on where you start. We will need to qualify well, and Saturday evening there will be work to do to understand what to expect on Sunday.”
Bearman Seeks Redemption Weekend
Although he does not believe luck is a crucial factor, he hopes it will be on his side during the three days of running: “You need to be lucky, but I firmly believe you create your own luck.”
“I wouldn’t say I was unlucky last week, I was just on the wrong side of a few small things. I don’t believe in luck, but if there’s a weekend to have it, it’s this one.”
Despite a disappointing weekend in Imola, he notes that a very good result was possible: “The performance in the car is good, I would have liked to see where I would have qualified if I had made it into Q2, and the pace in clean air was good. I had to make another stop, but if everything had been executed properly, we would have finished in the points last week.”
