Schumacher sets his sights on F1, rejecting any move to IndyCar. Will he find a spot in the 2025 lineup?
Jacques Villeneuve fears Mick Schumacher may not have a Formula 1 seat next year. His nationality had linked him to a future at Audi, while his role with Alpine in WEC suggested he might replace Esteban Ocon, but Villeneuve is skeptical.
“No team seems to want Mick Schumacher,” stated the Canadian. “Mick and his team have pushed, but no one appears eager to add him to their lineup.”
The 1997 World Champion believes that repeated criticisms from Günther Steiner, the former Haas F1 boss, have damaged the German’s reputation: “It’s concerning for teams. Do they want to take the risk hoping Mick is better than they are? For now, it doesn’t seem so.”
Villeneuve thinks Schumacher’s main asset remains his name, which might interest some teams: “If a team hires Mick as an F1 driver, it’s because they want the Schumacher image. It’s a risk Audi might be willing to take.”
Rumors had placed Schumacher in IndyCar for next year, but the man himself firmly denied this: “I have never spoken to any IndyCar team. I don’t know where this rumor came from. I’m not thinking about it right now because it’s not my goal. My goal has always been Formula 1 and will always be Formula 1.”
