Hollywood meets high-speed drama as Brad Pitt takes the wheel — promising to steer Formula 1 into the hearts of new global fans.
After several wildly successful seasons of Drive to Survive on Netflix, Formula 1 is getting ready to hit the big screen. This June, the sport shifts gears with the release of F1, a high-octane film directed by Joe Kosinski (Top Gun: Maverick) and produced by blockbuster veteran Jerry Bruckheimer. The movie stars Brad Pitt, Damson Idris, and Javier Bardem — and expectations are sky-high.
McLaren CEO Zak Brown is confident the movie will rev up global interest in the sport.
“I think this will give F1 a whole new level of visibility,” he said. “If you think back to Top Gun, everyone wanted to be a fighter pilot and Tom Cruise after watching that film. I believe we’ll see a similar effect with Brad Pitt and racing.”
Brown expects the film to pull in younger and more diverse audiences, expanding F1’s global fanbase. “This could be an amazing boost for our sport,” he added.
Hollywood Turbocharges F1
Red Bull team principal Christian Horner agrees. He’s banking on the film’s scale and star power to elevate F1’s popularity.
“It’s really exciting. Jerry Bruckheimer makes great movies. From what we’ve seen so far, this film is going to bring Formula 1 to life on the big screen,” Horner said.
The movie cleverly weaves real footage from the past two racing seasons into its storyline — blurring the lines between fact and fiction. “For the sport, our partners, and the brands involved, this is a chance to reach completely new audiences,” Horner noted. “It’s massive exposure. I can’t wait to see it this summer.”
Alpine team principal Oliver Oakes shares the enthusiasm and predicts the film will spark fresh interest in the sport.
“It’s exciting for F1,” he said. “A brand new audience might just fall in love with the sport. At the London launch, when they showed a sneak peek, the crowd was instantly hyped and wanted to know when it was coming out. Honestly, I’m counting down the days.”
