Red Bull Scandal: Vasseur Hints at ‘More Than Just Cheating’

19/10/2024

Ferrari boss Vasseur raises concerns about Red Bull’s alleged technical violations, describing the issue as beyond typical grey areas in F1.

Red Bull may be guilty of “more than just cheating” in the ongoing T-tray controversy at the United States Grand Prix.

This was the assertion made by Ferrari team principal Frédéric Vasseur, as he weighed in on Formula 1’s latest technical scandal, which has so far been highlighted in the media largely by McLaren, Red Bull’s direct rival for championship titles.

Before the sprint qualifying in Austin, Red Bull’s mechanics demonstrated to FIA inspectors how their unique ride-height adjustment system works, stressing that it requires special tools and disassembly, rather than allowing for covert adjustments in parc fermé.

“If they’ve really modified the car in parc fermé, it would be more than cheating,” Vasseur remarked in Austin.

“It would be massive. But I don’t know the details. The FIA will do its job.”

When asked if he agreed with Zak Brown’s concerns about the legitimacy of past results, Vasseur responded, “We have to trust the FIA on this. I don’t want to comment on rumours, as I don’t know what has happened. I’m not part of the team, obviously, and I don’t know if they use it or not.”

“But if they are using it, it’s clearly cheating. This isn’t a grey area or anything like that. We’ve had plenty of grey areas since the start of the season, but in this case, if it’s true, it would definitely not be a grey area.”

“We need to trust the FIA, and we’ll see what comes of it.”
