F1 enters 2025 with a fresh calendar and minor Sprint changes, maintaining excitement while celebrating the sport’s 75th anniversary.
The FIA and Formula 1 have officially transitioned into 2025 alongside the rest of the world, and it’s time to review what lies ahead this season.
Starting with the Formula 1 World Championship calendar, fans, drivers, and teams can look forward to a new 24-race season as the championship celebrates its 75th anniversary.
Kicking off with the Australian Grand Prix from March 14 to 16 and concluding with the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix on the weekend of December 5 to 7, the paddock will once again travel across five continents. There will be no new Grands Prix in 2025, just a few date adjustments.
With Ramadan occurring throughout March 2025, the Bahrain and Saudi Arabian Grands Prix will be held in April.
The traditional summer break remains in August, with three free weekends separating the Hungarian Grand Prix at the Hungaroring before the break and the Dutch Grand Prix at Zandvoort after it. However, there will also be a three-week gap in July between Silverstone and Spa. Is Formula 1 looking to avoid summer, which is less favorable for television audiences?
Adjustments made to the 2024 calendar for better geographic distribution have been retained for 2025. Japan will follow Australia and China in April, with primarily European races in the summer and the Americas in the fall, before wrapping up with Qatar and Abu Dhabi.
As for the Sprints, the first update is that their number remains unchanged. Six Sprints will continue to take place on Saturday mornings. The format introduced in 2024 also remains the same, with Free Practice and Sprint Qualifying on Friday, followed by the Sprint and Grand Prix Qualifying on Saturday.
The first Sprint will take place on March 22 in China, the second on May 3 in Miami, and the third on July 26 in Belgium. As in the current season, three Sprints will occur before the summer break, and three will follow the four-week hiatus.
The fourth Sprint is scheduled for October 18 in Austin, the fifth on November 8 at Interlagos, and the final one of the season will be held on November 29 at Losail during the Qatar Grand Prix.
Ultimately, the only change from this year is the removal of the Sprint at the Austrian Grand Prix, which had hosted one for several years, replaced instead by a Sprint at the Belgian Grand Prix.
