Formula 1 legend Eddie Jordan, known for his bold team ownership and TV charisma, has passed away at 76, leaving an unforgettable legacy.

Eddie Jordan, the charismatic former Formula 1 team owner and well-known TV commentator, has passed away at the age of 76.

The Irishman, who had been battling an aggressive form of prostate cancer, died peacefully in the early hours of March 20, 2025, surrounded by his family in Cape Town.

In a heartfelt statement, his family announced:
“With deep sadness, we confirm the passing of Eddie Jordan – former Formula 1 team owner, television personality, and entrepreneur.”

A Life Dedicated to Racing

Born on March 30, 1948, in Dublin, Ireland, Edmund “Eddie” Jordan was a visionary in the world of motorsport. He founded and led Jordan Grand Prix, a Formula 1 team that competed from 1991 to 2005, launching the careers of several legendary drivers, including Michael Schumacher.

Jordan’s journey into racing was anything but conventional. Originally aspiring to become a dentist, he left his studies to work at the Bank of Ireland. During a banking strike, he moved to Jersey in the Channel Islands, where he witnessed a karting race that changed his life. Inspired, he bought a kart upon returning to Dublin and started competing in 1970. The following year, he won the Irish Karting Championship.

From Racer to Team Boss

Jordan progressed through the racing ranks, competing in Formula Ford in the mid-1970s before moving up to Formula Atlantic, where he won the Irish championship in 1978. He also had brief stints in Formula 3, Formula 2, and even tested for McLaren’s F1 team.

In 1979, he transitioned from driver to team owner, founding Eddie Jordan Racing, which developed young talent in Formula 3 and later Formula 3000. By 1991, he had taken the ultimate step, entering Formula 1 with Jordan Grand Prix. The team quickly gained a reputation for its bold racing philosophy, eye-catching yellow livery, and its ability to nurture future F1 stars. However, due to financial struggles, Jordan sold the team in early 2005.

A New Role in Formula 1

Jordan remained a prominent figure in F1, joining BBC Sport in 2009 as a pundit, bringing his sharp insights and unique energy to TV audiences. He also conducted podium interviews at several Grands Prix, including Belgium in 2014 and Malaysia in 2015.

Even in his later years, Jordan stayed connected to the sport, co-hosting the popular Formula For Success podcast alongside former F1 driver David Coulthard.

His legacy in motorsport goes beyond race results—he was a pioneer, a risk-taker, and a larger-than-life character whose passion for Formula 1 never faded.
