Netflix confirms Drive to Survive Season 7 launch as it intensifies efforts to secure exclusive U.S. Formula 1 broadcasting rights.

Netflix and Formula 1 have announced the release date for the seventh season of Drive to Survive, the documentary series that delves into the behind-the-scenes world of the pinnacle of motorsport. The new episodes will arrive on the streaming platform on March 7.

Tom Hutchings, executive producer of the series for Box to Box Films, which produces it, is pleased to launch a new season that will continue to unveil dramatized yet often unseen backstage content. His teams once again had full access to team environments to create never-before-seen material.

“We’re really excited for fans to watch the new season of Drive to Survive. The 2024 season was incredible, both on and off the track, and the action was already underway before the first race in Bahrain. Expect more drama and excitement in the paddock this season, along with a few surprises,” said Hutchings.

“Experience the behind-the-scenes battles as teams compete for the best drivers on the market, live a weekend with the racers during the most challenging event of the year, and brace yourself for a thrilling finale down to the last race. Buckle up—this season will be the biggest ever.”

Netflix, soon to be the U.S. broadcaster for Formula 1?

Netflix is reportedly in talks with Liberty Media to secure a broadcasting deal for Formula 1 in the U.S., potentially replacing ESPN. The sports network currently holds the rights at $90 million per season, a figure driven by F1’s growing popularity across the Atlantic.

According to The Times, ESPN’s exclusive period to renegotiate its rights has expired, allowing other contenders to step in as potential replacements.

Netflix recently experimented with broadcasting live sports, including NFL games during Christmas and the boxing match between Mike Tyson and Jake Paul, which became the most-streamed event in history.
