Colapinto vs. Doohan: F1 Drama Heats Up as Manager Calls for Calm

11/03/2025

Jack Doohan’s seat at Alpine is in jeopardy, with Franco Colapinto waiting in the wings. Will Alpine make an early switch?

Tension is building in the F1 world as speculation swirls around Jack Doohan’s seat at Alpine. With whispers of Franco Colapinto stepping in, emotions are running high—especially among fans. But the Argentine’s manager has a clear message: calm down.

Alpine advisor Flavio Briatore recently hinted that Doohan’s future is far from secure.

“If you have two drivers, choose between two. If you have five, choose between five. That doesn’t scare me. I know how to make a decision when needed.”

Even team principal Oliver Oakes hasn’t ruled out changes, though he’s called out the “keyboard warriors” who are fueling the fire.

“Jack needs some space to prove himself. At the end of the day, like any driver, he has to perform. He knows this isn’t just a dream—it’s his job.”

But for many Colapinto supporters, patience isn’t an option. Some have already taken to social media to criticize Doohan, forcing his manager, Jamie Campbell-Walter, to step in.

“To the haters who think they’re helping Franco, you’re doing him more harm than good,” he wrote.

He slammed the “insults toward the team, Jack, and even other Alpine fans,” making it clear that Colapinto’s camp won’t contribute to a toxic atmosphere.

“Franco and all of us who support him are fans of the whole team—Pierre (Gasly) and Jack included. Be passionate, but don’t be abusive or arrogant. Franco’s time will come, but not like this. You’ll only make things worse.”

Will Colapinto Replace Doohan? Ralf Schumacher Weighs In

Former F1 driver Ralf Schumacher thinks it’s only a matter of time before Colapinto gets his shot—if Doohan doesn’t deliver.

“I know Flavio. If Doohan doesn’t perform—and from what we’ve heard, his testing wasn’t great—then it’ll be over pretty quickly.”

But it’s all in Doohan’s hands.

“If he goes to Melbourne and destroys Pierre Gasly, he could become a superstar. But right now, that’s not the case.”

Schumacher even believes the decision could come as soon as the Australian Grand Prix.

“I wouldn’t be surprised. Flavio isn’t sentimental. If Doohan struggles, Colapinto will be in the car by China.”

As for Colapinto, Schumacher sees plenty of potential but warns he’ll need to clean up his record.

“He knows most of the tracks, he has a solid sponsor, and he’s fast. But he also needs to find full coverage insurance!” he joked, referencing Colapinto’s series of crashes with Williams last season.

One thing is clear: the pressure is on, and all eyes are on Doohan.
