Jack Doohan hits back at doubts, proving he’s no rookie pushover by keeping pace with Gasly in Alpine’s tough 2025 start.
Despite speculation that Jack Doohan’s time at Alpine could be short-lived, the Australian rookie is making a case for himself — and he’s doing it with confidence.
After the first two races of the 2025 season, Doohan believes his performance is on par with his more experienced teammate, Pierre Gasly. “On average, we’re really close — especially in qualifying. Sometimes there’s just a tenth between us depending on the session,” Doohan said.
Pressure has been mounting since Franco Colapinto was brought in as Alpine’s reserve driver, but Doohan remains upbeat about his raw pace in both Australia and China.
More importantly, Alpine’s leadership seems satisfied with what they’ve seen so far.
“There are definitely a lot of positives to take away,” he added. “I just need to reset, focus on executing better in the races, and avoid trouble.”
“We haven’t scored points yet to show it on paper, but the people inside the team know what’s really going on — and that’s what matters most.”
Team figures like Flavio Briatore, Oliver Oakes, and Luca de Meo are keeping a close eye, and Doohan is aware that results will be expected soon. “Everyone wants to see points — the team, the fans. So when the car is ready to fight for them, we need to be, too.”
Looking ahead, he’s staying grounded but hopeful: “For now, it’s about keeping our heads down, continuing to work hard, and hopefully Suzuka will suit us better.”
