Alpine Backing Grows as Doohan Delivers in Jeddah

As Alpine praise his progress and consistency, Jack Doohan strengthens his case for a permanent place in the team this season.

Jack Doohan is gaining traction, not just on the track, but in the paddock buzz too.

After a solid showing in Bahrain, rumors have been swirling that the young Australian may have secured his spot with Alpine F1 at least until the summer break — and possibly for the rest of the season. If true, that would ease the speculation around a mid-season swap with Franco Colapinto.

Speaking ahead of the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix in Jeddah, Doohan responded calmly to the chatter.

“I’ve tried not to get caught up in all the speculation,” he said. “Internally, we’ve always been clear on my contract situation. Everything else outside of that is just noise.”

Doohan emphasized his focus remains on building momentum with the team. “I can fully concentrate on what really matters: working with the team and pushing myself to improve as quickly as possible.”

Recent results have helped his case. “The past four rounds have shown some strong pace, and that’s encouraging. We’ve got solid foundations — now it’s about putting all the pieces together and delivering.”

His best result so far this year came in Bahrain, where he narrowly missed Q3 by just 0.017 seconds and finished the race 14th. So what’s his mindset going into this weekend?

“Don’t overcomplicate things in Q2 — that’s where tire temps matter most. Just stick to what works and trust the basics,” he explained.

“I was hovering around P5 or P6 for most of qualifying. But I tried to overthink it at the end — tried to reinvent the wheel — and that probably cost me a spot in Q3. Lesson learned.”
