Aston Martin Dodges Verstappen Speculation for 2026.
Aston Martin F1 stays tight-lipped on reports of a massive offer to Max Verstappen for 2026, focusing on current driver lineup.
Aston Martin’s new team boss, Andy Cowell, has chosen his words carefully in the face of swirling rumors linking Max Verstappen to the team for the 2026 Formula 1 season.
Speculation around Verstappen’s future ramped up again during the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix weekend, especially after Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko hinted at concerns that Verstappen could walk away if performance issues continue.
Italian outlet La Gazzetta dello Sport reported on Friday that Aston Martin is ready to put a €264 million offer on the table—a three-year deal covering 2026 through 2028—to try and lure the reigning World Champion.
When asked if these rumors were causing distractions inside the team, Cowell didn’t bite.
“We’re in a great position with two experienced drivers signed for the next two seasons. That allows me to focus fully on growing the team and building a faster race car,” he said.
Cowell, previously the engine mastermind at Mercedes, was also asked directly whether a seat might open up for Verstappen in 2026. Again, he played it cool—neither confirming nor denying any approach.
“My focus is on making this team better and building a car that Lance and Fernando can win with,” he replied.
Meanwhile, Aston Martin released a short statement addressing the rumors.
“It’s normal for the media to speculate about the driver market. But we’re committed to our current line-up, and both drivers are under contract through 2026 and beyond,” it read. “Our priority is giving them a competitive car. If we do that, they’ll deliver the results we’re aiming for.”
