Aston Martin F1 boss Andy Cowell reflects on a tough Suzuka race, where an 11th-place finish was the best the team could achieve.
Aston Martin F1 team principal Andy Cowell acknowledged that the team was not in a position to challenge for a top 10 finish during the Japanese Grand Prix at Suzuka on Sunday. Despite a solid strategy, Cowell explained that progress was limited.
“The Suzuka race was challenging. We tried to take advantage of any opportunities that came our way, but in reality, they were few and far between,” Cowell said. “We gave it our all with Fernando, our strategy was solid, but in the end, we finished 11th, just outside the points. That was the best we could achieve today.”
For Lance Stroll, a poor qualifying session completely disrupted his race. “Lance’s starting position made it extremely difficult to move up through the field, especially at a circuit like Suzuka, where overtaking is notoriously tough,” Cowell noted.
“The race highlighted other areas where we can improve. It’s all part of the learning and development process, and we’ll take these lessons with us to Bahrain next weekend.”
