Confident Albon Williams' Peaky Car Woes Now Over

Albon’s Bold Prediction: Williams Back on Top Soon

24/12/2024

Alex Albon embraces the challenge of spearheading Williams F1’s return to the top, determined to make his role count.

Alex Albon is confident Williams F1 can return to the top of Formula 1 in the near future. The Thai driver revealed he firmly believes in it, stating that if he didn’t, he wouldn’t be a good representative and driver for the Grove-based team.

“As I see it, it’s more about believing in this project and committing myself to the team for several years,” said Albon. “It’s also part of my responsibility to make it work. I relish the challenge. I feel like a great journey lies ahead of us.”

“If I think the team isn’t doing what I can do, that’s not the right mindset. Ultimately, I have to ask myself what my role is in all this, and I won’t overlook any detail in trying to extract every ounce of performance from the car and ensuring we’re on the right path.”

Albon is keen to eliminate the ‘peaky’ nature of the Williams, referring to a characteristic that makes it tricky to handle due to a narrow performance window.

“That’s true. We know as a team that if we want to be at our best, there’s no point in having a ‘peaky’ car. Such a car is fine at the back of the grid, where you can score points in two or three races.”

“That’s usually enough to secure eighth, ninth, or even tenth in the championship. We know we need to be more consistent and adaptable across different circuits. We’ve definitely fallen behind in straight-line speed compared to our rivals.”

“But I also think many teams have closed the gap to us. Everything is coming together. Right now, in Formula 1, the ten teams are very similar in terms of drivers, which will be fascinating heading into 2025.”
