Pierre Gasly and Franco Colapinto voice frustrations as Alpine F1 and the C6 tyre compound fall short again in tough Monaco conditions.
Pierre Gasly posted a very disappointing 18th time in Monaco, which will turn into a 17th grid spot thanks to Oliver Bearman’s penalty. The Alpine F1 driver is struggling to understand why he and the team have failed to make real progress.
Gasly Laments Alpine Pace
“Today, we have no excuse other than the fact that we’re too slow. We’ll have to work because we had much higher expectations, but we were way too slow this weekend and we didn’t find a solution,” said Gasly, who is surprised by how much the A525 struggled on the twisty layout.
“There were moments earlier in the season where we were doing well in these kinds of corners, but this weekend we really struggled with how bumpy it is. Even with good laps, it’s not a massive gap — we’re seven tenths off the best time, one tenth off 15th place, and two tenths off 10th place, but we’re still at the back of the pack.”
Colapinto Battles Tyre Woes
Franco Colapinto continued his difficult weekend, spending it at the back of the field and finishing last, nearly one and a half seconds off the best time: “We were struggling in general. The slow corners are really tough for us, hard to get through, and we have poor traction.”
“Every time I put on the C6 soft tyres, I dropped off and was off the pace. We expected more, but it didn’t work out this weekend. We’ll work tonight because there are two pit stops tomorrow, and if the race gets chaotic, that could help us.”
Starting 18th thanks to penalties for Lance Stroll and Oliver Bearman, he remains skeptical about the race: “I can’t get the C6 to work over a full lap — I lose speed or traction. I have more confidence with the C5, and I need to figure out how to find pace with the C6.”
