Colapinto Earns High Praise from Pérez After Tough Race

Pérez Hails Colapinto’s Error-Free Drive in Singapore

26/09/2024

Sergio Pérez praised Franco Colapinto’s flawless performance during the Singapore GP, recognizing the young Williams driver’s strong racecraft. Colapinto, in turn, was honored by the words of his F1 idol.

Sergio Pérez battled against Franco Colapinto this weekend in Singapore, and the Mexican had nothing but praise for the Williams F1 driver after the race. He particularly highlighted the Argentinian’s error-free performance, as Colapinto held him off for much of the race.

“He had a fantastic race,” Pérez said after the event. “He made no missteps. It was very difficult to follow him at that point, and the race was tough. In the end, we managed to undercut him, but that was the only option we had.”

Colapinto was, of course, thrilled to hear such words from his elder, as Pérez had been one of his idols when he followed Formula 1 as a child.

“I was trying to push. Checo is a really nice guy, and I grew up watching him race in F1, waking up early in Argentina, supporting him as a Mexican, because he was the closest to us,” Colapinto said.

“It was great supporting him when I was younger. And now, it’s even better racing against him. It’s a shame we didn’t finish with points after a good effort. But that’s how it goes.”

“We had a good race too, but we made a few mistakes that kept us from finishing in the points. We weren’t perfect, and I think that’s why we’re not in the points.”
