Williams F1 endured a dismal Qatar GP as Albon finished last and Colapinto’s race ended abruptly before the first corner.
Williams F1 failed to capitalize on a chaotic Qatar Grand Prix, with Alex Albon’s lost rear-view mirror triggering a chain reaction on track.
Alex Albon finished last, one lap down, after multiple mistakes and incidents.
“It was a tough day. We were a bit in no man’s land for most of the race, stuck at the back and struggling to find pace. The safety car made things interesting, and we took the chance to fit softs. It was an optimistic gamble but worth trying given our pace.”
“We knew every safety car restart presented the only chance to overtake on the first lap, so we gained some positions and were in the points for a while. But we were banking on another safety car that didn’t come, and the tires started degrading heavily.”
“For about ten laps, we had decent pace, but ultimately, we just weren’t fast enough.”
Franco Colapinto expressed his disappointment at being taken out in Turn 1 after trying to leave sufficient space on the inside.
“I was in the wrong place at the wrong time and couldn’t avoid it,” he said.
“It’s frustrating because the race offered plenty of opportunities to do something that could have kept us in contention. In the end, it’s part of racing. We’ll need to assess the damage today. It’s crucial to have a clean weekend in Abu Dhabi and aim to finish the season on a strong note.”
