Canada GP Secured Until 2035 in New F1 Deal Extension

Formula 1 confirms Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal will remain on the calendar until 2035, securing its future in global motorsport.

Formula 1 has announced that the Canadian Grand Prix will enter its seventh decade following a new four-year agreement reached with the promoter and the governments of Canada and Quebec, ensuring that the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal remains on the calendar until 2035.

Last week’s event marked the 54th edition of the Canadian Grand Prix since its debut in 1967. Four current drivers – George Russell, Max Verstappen, Lewis Hamilton, and Fernando Alonso – have all won on this 4.36 km circuit. Hamilton shares the record for most wins at the track with Michael Schumacher, each with seven victories.

The Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, named after the legendary Canadian F1 driver, became the race’s permanent venue in 1978 and is a fan and driver favorite, known for its heavy-braking chicanes, the famous hairpin turn, and the iconic Wall of Champions at the end of the lap.

In recent years, the promoter, Octane Racing Group, has invested heavily in the event, modernizing infrastructure to meet the growing demands of Formula 1 as the sport continues its global expansion. This investment will continue and will be crucial to the event’s ongoing improvement in the coming years.

Additionally, alongside stakeholders such as the Government of Canada, Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions, the Government of Quebec, the Ministry of Tourism (Quebec), the City of Montreal, Tourisme Montréal, and the Société du parc Jean-Drapeau, the promoter supported Formula 1’s efforts to streamline the race calendar by agreeing to move the event to an earlier slot starting in 2026.

The renewal also includes a long-term extension of the media rights agreement with Bell Media.

Stefano Domenicali, President and CEO of Formula 1, stated: “As Formula 1 celebrates its 75th anniversary, it is only fitting that we announce the extension of the Canadian Grand Prix, a race with such a rich history in our sport and one that bears the name of a true legend, Gilles Villeneuve.”

“Montreal is an incredible city, full of energy and passionate fans, and I’m thrilled to confirm that we will continue racing there through the 2035 season and that our media rights agreement with Bell Media is also extended long-term.”

“I would like to thank the promoter, Octane Racing Group, for their ongoing efforts to modernize this iconic venue over recent years, as well as all the local, regional, and national political leaders who have worked closely together to make this event what it is today.”

“I also want to thank our amazing Canadian fans. I look forward to creating more unforgettable moments in Montreal with you over the next 10 years.”

In a joint statement, Valérie Plante, Mayor of Montreal; Caroline Proulx, Minister of Tourism and Minister Responsible for the Lanaudière Region; Carlos Leitão, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Industry, on behalf of the Honourable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Industry and Minister Responsible for CED; Yves Lalumière, President and CEO of Tourisme Montréal; and Véronique Doucet, Director General of the Société du parc Jean-Drapeau, said: “We are proud to renew this important multi-partner agreement with the Formula 1 World Championship.”

“The Canadian Grand Prix is not only the largest event in the country but also one of the most cherished worldwide. It energizes our city and shines a global spotlight on it, while generating significant economic benefits for Canadian businesses and citizens. This announcement affirms our shared commitment to further develop the Canadian Formula 1 Grand Prix and ensure its unmatched success for years to come.”

Jean-Philippe Paradis, Senior Vice-President, Sales and Wholesale Services at Bell Business Markets, and President of the Formula 1 Canadian Grand Prix, added: “We are extremely proud to confirm that the Formula 1 Canadian Grand Prix will continue its annual stop in Montreal for another decade, through 2035. This renewed agreement reflects the iconic status of our race, with its rich heritage, unique location in a city where F1 takes over the downtown core, and its place on the global stage.”

“We are excited to offer fans, communities, and the world another ten years of world-class racing, as we work to build a premier Grand Prix that showcases the best of Canada, Quebec, and Montreal. With a clear strategy to elevate the event through sport, entertainment, and technology, we thank our outstanding partners – the governments of Canada and Quebec, the City of Montreal, Tourisme Montréal, and Parc Jean-Drapeau – for their renewed confidence, as well as Formula 1 for its continued trust. A special thanks goes to our amazing team, whose passion brings this event to life each year.”
