Cadillac F1 plans a $150M U.S. factory, targeting 2028 production of power units to ensure a competitive Formula 1 debut.
Cadillac has revealed plans for the new factory tied to its future F1 project. The facility will be located in Concord, New Hampshire, and is expected to cost General Motors around $150 million.
On Thursday, February 13, the city council will hold a meeting to confirm and approve Cadillac’s construction plans. The site would be adjacent to the headquarters of NASCAR team Hendrick Motorsports.
This factory is set to become a key location for engine development, working in synergy with Cadillac F1’s plant in Silverstone, where the chassis for the American automaker’s future single-seaters will be designed.
The city is unlikely to oppose the project, especially since the estimated $70 million facility alone will create jobs in Concord. Additionally, the city will benefit from revenue generated by the building, which it has outlined in its upcoming discussion agenda.
“The building will feature slanted concrete walls with glass and metal accents. The 1.90-hectare facility will have two floors and be fully air-conditioned to support precision work. A gated entry and large parking lot for staff and visitors will lead to the entrance, which will open into a Class A office and meeting space inside.”
“The production workshop is equipped with high lighting levels, pneumatic power ports, and a robust electrical service. Fiber optics will power the data center, supported by a redundant cooling and power system, ensuring a clear path to digital manufacturing.”
The preparation of the building and equipment purchases will exceed the construction investment itself, with costs potentially reaching $85 million.
“This project aims to design and test a cutting-edge engine capable of meeting the rigorous performance and efficiency standards of Formula 1,” it reads. “With an ambitious timeline, the goal is for the engine to be ready for vehicle integration by 2028, ensuring Cadillac’s competitive debut in Formula 1. Construction is scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2025, with the building expected to be occupied by the first quarter of 2027.”
“The project involves significant investments in new manufacturing, R&D, and IT equipment, along with the hiring of 300 to 350 highly skilled employees in manufacturing, engineering, and R&D roles, with an average salary ranging from $100,000 to $125,000 per year.”
