Formula 1 will soon confirm Cadillac’s 2026 entry, with Stefano Domenicali insisting the process won’t wait for the new Concorde Agreements.
Stefano Domenicali assures that Liberty Media and Formula 1 have never been opposed to Cadillac joining the grid. The F1 CEO reiterates that the owners of the pinnacle of motorsport primarily wanted to ensure that any new team was backed by a major name and ready to invest, rather than joining without the intent to be fully committed.
“It is important to clarify this position. We have always said that Cadillac has brought and will continue to bring incredible momentum to the Formula 1 ecosystem. We were referring to other situations that had been managed in the past, but today the situation is entirely different,” said Domenicali.
“Therefore, I believe Cadillac is preparing its entry in terms of getting ready for the season, as it would not be easy for them to enter such an advanced and high-tech sporting platform. They are doing everything to demonstrate that Cadillac is truly committed to the sport.”
“Now, there is the formality related to the process, which is nearly finalized with the FIA. An update is expected, and as soon as it is ready—which should not take long—there will be an official confirmation of what has already been set in motion.”
“They will then be ready to compete with the other teams next year. This is the natural progression, as GM has made it clear that they want to be a genuine manufacturer investing in our sport because they believe in the technological platform that F1 can provide for their system.”
“We are therefore very pleased that this team is now on board, moving forward, and we look forward to seeing them on track with the other teams, fighting for a great championship.”
However, while the formal confirmation of Cadillac’s arrival in 2026 is still awaited, the Italian assures that it will happen soon and that F1 is not waiting for the signing of the new Concorde Agreements: “The current discussion on the Concorde Agreements has no impact. As you know, the Concorde Agreements consist of two main elements.”
“The first is the financial aspect related to commercialization and marketing. This discussion is taking place between us and the teams, and we are in a good position on this point. The other subject, or the other part, is governance. Of course, we need to collaborate with the FIA and the teams, and we are working on this to meet the deadlines.”
“As you know, there is no time pressure because we are all working as partners and want to find the best solution for the sport. And this is something we will do even with an additional team in the future, as Cadillac will naturally be part of it and have a voice like the others.”
“As for Cadillac bringing a new American presence, I believe it will create opportunities, and I am completely optimistic because the sport is growing on such a scale that everyone will benefit. I am sure the Cadillac GM group will gain from being part of this ecosystem.”
