Ferrari will supply engines to Cadillac as it joins the F1 grid as the 11th team in 2026.
Following initial resistance from F1, when its bid to join the grid led by Michael Andretti faced scrutiny, assurances from GM about developing its own power unit in the coming years seemed to sway Stefano Domenicali and the sport’s leadership.
As a result, the team is set to join the grid in 2026 under the new F1 regulations.
Ferrari will provide engines and gearboxes in the interim.
Ferrari issued the following statement on Tuesday afternoon:
“Ferrari announces today a multi-year agreement starting in 2026 with Andretti Formula Racing LLC (the name registered with the FIA), regarding the supply of the power unit and gearbox to the racing team led by TWG Global and General Motors, subject to Andretti Formula Racing LLC receiving written confirmation from the FIA and F1 that its entry into the 2026 FIA Formula 1 World Championship has been accepted and approved.”
Preparations for 2026 are well underway, with Cadillac recently naming former Manor F1 Sporting Director Graeme Lowdon as Team Principal.
F1 World Champion Mario Andretti will remain a key advisor to the team.
“I will assist where I can, in a non-executive role within the team. I won’t be involved in daily operations but will provide guidance, inspiration, and friendship wherever possible.”
Regarding GM’s in-house power unit, they have committed to building a fully operational team “by the end of the decade.”
As for drivers, there are no shortage of options. American star Colton Herta is a name frequently mentioned, while a more experienced choice like Daniel Ricciardo or Valtteri Bottas could be considered for the other seat.
