Zak Brown credits team boss Andrea Stella as the key to McLaren’s rise, a calm leader turning ambition into results.
McLaren’s strong start to the season has turned heads, but according to team CEO Zak Brown, their biggest advantage isn’t what most would expect.
Following McLaren’s two early wins and their 50th career one-two finish, Brown praised the entire team — especially drivers Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri — but he reserved his highest praise for someone else: Team Principal Andrea Stella.
“Looking at it on paper, no one would’ve expected this,” Brown told Sky Sports F1. “Our team nailed it strategically. We’ve shown again that we have the best driver lineup — and the best team principal in Formula 1. That’s our true secret weapon.”
McLaren’s Unity Drives Winning Momentum
Brown credited the results to the unity and drive of the whole McLaren team, both at the McLaren Technology Centre and trackside. “You can see how close the competition is. We have to stay focused and keep pushing.”
He also highlighted the chemistry between Norris and Piastri: “Look at our pit wall, our technical leadership, Andrea, our drivers — it’s all about stability, teamwork, and mutual respect. The drivers really get along, and that’s powerful.”
According to Brown, both Norris and Piastri came into the season laser-focused, technically sharp, and ready to perform. “They’ve both raised their game. It’s been amazing to watch.”
Next up: Suzuka. A track where McLaren has looked strong in recent years. Brown is eager to see how the team performs in Japan — and thrilled by how competitive the front of the grid has become.
“We go into each weekend knowing four teams can win — and we’re one of them. Japan’s always been a great track for us. This season is shaping up to be an epic one, and I think we’re just getting started.”
