Lando Norris triumphed at the 2025 Monaco Grand Prix, delivering a dominant F1 drive as McLaren strengthens its Formula 1 title bid.
Zak Brown, CEO of McLaren, praised Lando Norris’s performance at the Monaco Grand Prix, where the Briton claimed victory today.
Norris mastered Monaco to take a crucial win, his second of the season after the opening round in Australia.
The McLaren driver started from pole position after setting a new lap record and controlled all 78 laps of the race.
Securing pole was a significant moment for Norris, with Brown acknowledging that mistakes had been made in qualifying earlier this season.
“He obviously had some struggles in Q3, and making it in Q3 at Monte Carlo is fantastic. So I think he’s very focused. He knows he’s got a great shot at winning the championship and maybe wanted to make it a bit more exciting.”
“I told him before the race he had no idea how stressful it was… for me! Charles was fast and I was worried at the start and then at certain corners where he might attack, but he didn’t put a wheel wrong.”
“What a superb race! Charles drove brilliantly, Max [Verstappen] was great, and of course our two guys were as well. The strategy was excellent. It was a thrilling race, a bit more than I would have liked, but I’m sure it was great for television.”
“It was an almost perfect weekend. I’m thrilled. It’s a big day for points and winning in Monaco is exciting, it’s a major victory.”
Regarding the championship battle, Brown is still holding off on making any conclusions.
“It’s really great. I reminded Oscar that he’s still leading the championship. It’s going to get fun in the second half of the season. They’re motivated and I’m looking forward to watching them race. I think Lando is focused and knows he’s also got a great chance at winning the championship.”
“Oscar is not backing down and had a great weekend, he was in the top three all weekend and his track position was his final result, so he had a really good weekend.”
Finally, regarding the two mandatory pit stops that sparked some controversy, Brown actually enjoyed the change.
“The results seem the same for us in the end, but the stress on the pit wall, dealing with traffic, and having Charles and Max in the mix made the race much more exciting than the usual Monaco GP, even if the results at the top of the timing sheet looked the same.”
