Briatore’s Alpine reboot gets Gasly’s full support

Flavio Briatore’s return to Alpine F1 sparks major changes. Pierre Gasly believes his leadership is exactly what the team needs.

Pierre Gasly has voiced strong support for Flavio Briatore’s bold moves at Alpine F1, saying the Italian is pushing the team hard in a bid to turn things around.

Briatore returned to the Renault fold in June as Executive Advisor after Alpine’s rough start to the season. Renault CEO Luca de Meo brought him back hoping for a much-needed “shock to the system.” Briatore famously led the team during its last championship win with Fernando Alonso in 2006.

That shock has certainly been felt. Since his return, Briatore has made waves with an aggressive restructuring of the team. His latest move? Replacing Jack Doohan as reserve driver to promote Argentine talent Franco Colapinto, a decision Briatore reportedly pushed for.

“Flavio is pushing the team in an impressive way,” said Gasly. “He’s working to get the most out of everything, really trying to move us forward.”

“He brings a lot of experience, a huge network, and he’s someone who isn’t afraid to make changes. Sometimes, you need that push, that challenge, and he brings that every day.”

Gasly believes the team is already seeing positive shifts, even if the results won’t come overnight. “It’s not a sport where things change in two or three months. We need time, but he’s clearly driving us in the right direction.”

Another major shake-up came when Briatore decided to scrap Renault’s engine project for 2026, opting instead for Mercedes power units, a controversial call that could reshape Alpine’s future.

“We’re rethinking how we work and questioning if we’re doing things the best way,” Gasly explained. “We’re doing a lot of things right, but F1 evolves fast. You always have to adapt and innovate.”

“I think Flavio is working well with the team,” he added. “And overall, we’re making real progress.”
