Briatore Verstappen’s 2024 F1 Triumph Over Norris Never in Doubt

Briatore Never Doubted Verstappen’s Victory Over Norris

15/01/2025

Despite mid-season struggles, Briatore insists Verstappen’s dominance and skill made his fourth title an inevitability over Norris.

Max Verstappen had to deliver his best to secure his fourth title in 2024.

The Red Bull driver, who benefited from the best F1 car in the season’s opening third, faced greater challenges with his RB20 as McLaren and Ferrari gained momentum.

There was even a moment, just before Monza, when the Dutchman doubted his ability to fend off Lando Norris’s championship surge.

But for Flavio Briatore, Alpine F1’s executive advisor, there was no cause for concern. The Italian maintains he never doubted for a second that Verstappen would clinch his fourth title.

“Verstappen’s fourth world title was never in jeopardy, even when Red Bull Racing struggled, and McLaren excelled with Norris. No. I knew Verstappen would become champion, and I saw it coming. Why? It’s simple. Verstappen is the best. And one becomes an even greater champion in tough years.”

“It may not have been easy with the 2024 Red Bull, but the driver’s quality is the decisive factor. You see it with Verstappen. The highlight was the Brazilian Grand Prix, where he came from 17th to victory.”

By winning the 2024 world title, Verstappen joins Alain Prost and Sebastian Vettel, both four-time world champions.

“Verstappen has many similarities with Vettel, who also won his titles at Red Bull in four consecutive years. In my opinion, comparing drivers to determine the best is difficult, so I’ll leave that to the fans.”

Another battle between Verstappen and Norris in 2025? Absolutely, he believes.

“The issue for Norris compared to Verstappen last season was his inexperience. He’s still young, perhaps too young. But the experience Norris gained will help him in 2025. If McLaren starts the year strong, he’ll have every chance.”
