Brazilian GP Reschedules Qualifying After Severe Weather Delays

F1 Qualifying Delayed: How Sunday’s Brazilian GP Will Unfold

03/11/2024

The Brazilian GP’s revised Sunday schedule promises intense action, with qualifying and race squeezed into a single day.

The São Paulo Grand Prix schedule has been completely disrupted following the postponement of qualifying due to Saturday evening’s severe weather conditions in Brazil (more details here).

The FIA attempted to delay the qualifying session as long as possible, but to no avail.

The FIA has now confirmed that qualifying for the São Paulo Grand Prix will begin at 7:30 am local time (10:30 am in UK), a mere five hours before the race itself in Brazil, which will now take place earlier than originally scheduled.

In line with the F1 sporting regulations, the grid formation session must conclude at least three hours before the Grand Prix start time.

The race had initially been set for 2 pm local time (5 pm in UK), but due to unfavourable weather forecasts, the start time has been moved forward by 90 minutes to 12:30 pm local time, or 3:30 pm in UK.

“The decision was made, after consultation with the stewards, to schedule qualifying at 11:30 am on Sunday morning ahead of the Grand Prix at 4:30 pm. This will maximise our chances of delivering a race day experience for the fans, and the FIA and Formula 1 believe this schedule change is necessary and the right thing to do for all our passionate fans,” said FIA Managing Director Davide Martin.
