Valtteri Bottas is exploring his future beyond Sauber, eyeing a 2026 F1 seat with Cadillac—or a bold switch to IndyCar.
The Finnish driver, now a spectator at the Australian Grand Prix, finds himself in an uncertain position. After losing his seat at Sauber, he has returned to Mercedes F1 as a reserve driver.
While some might wonder if he’s hoping Kimi Antonelli struggles, Bottas seems more focused on securing a race seat for 2026. One potential option? Cadillac F1. This morning, he was spotted deep in conversation with team director Graeme Lowdon, fueling speculation.
But what if F1 doesn’t work out? Bottas isn’t ruling out a switch to IndyCar.
“There are a lot of opportunities on the driver market right now,” he said.
“Formula 1 is always the priority, especially when you’re still involved in the paddock. But next year feels far away for now.”
“At the same time, summer will be here before we know it, and the season will be halfway through. So, of course, I have to think about 2026 soon. But for now, it’s a bit early for concrete decisions. That just motivates me to keep pushing.”
If Cadillac doesn’t come through, could Bottas really leave F1 behind?
“My number one goal is staying in Formula 1. But if that doesn’t happen, I have to consider other options. IndyCar could be a good alternative, even though I’m not thinking about it seriously right now.”
“For now, I’m focused on F1, but the future is unpredictable. Maybe I’ll still be in the same role next year.”
“Everything is open. I’m just grateful to be back with Mercedes F1 and staying in the game.”
