Bottas Axed by Audi, Set to Decide Future Soon

Audi Overhaul Begins: Bottas to Quickly Choose Path

07/06/2024

Valtteri Bottas must rapidly decide his future after being ousted from Audi’s F1 team, signaling major team changes.

Bottas is expected to secure his place in F1 regardless of the scenarios that will unfold, as he is one of the most sought-after experienced drivers.

Audi F1, Williams, Alpine, or Haas are the four options remaining for the Finn, although two drivers ahead of him still have priority in terms of seats, Carlos Sainz and Esteban Ocon.

However, the Finn states in Montreal that he will likely speed things up and seems to already be out of the race for the remaining Audi F1 seat, which logically should go to either Sainz, Ocon, or perhaps Pierre Gasly.

“I think I need to make my choice quickly. Nothing has been confirmed or signed on my side, so no big news since Monaco week. I am still working with all the existing options and need to act soon.”

Bottas is convinced he will not be left out when the F1 musical chairs game ends, emphasizing that he is not worried and promising “an interesting week or two ahead.”

Regarding being snubbed by Audi, he replies, “I feel that at the moment, Audi wants a lot of changes in the team. It’s probably the same with the drivers. That’s how I read the situation, and they are ready to wait a long time. But I can’t wait forever.”

“This team is definitely still an option. But I don’t think I have the time to wait too long. That’s why I want to speed things up.”

“Personally, from what has been communicated to me over the past 12 months or so, I have always wanted to be part of the project, but things have quieted down recently, which is why I need to try to analyze the situation and do my own thing.”
