Swift action prevents a potential crisis as blackmailers target Michael Schumacher’s family with private photos.
Blackmailers threatened to publish photos of Michael Schumacher.
German investigators and prosecutors discovered private photos in the possession of two men attempting to extort money from the family of the seven-time world champion, who has remained out of public sight since his skiing accident in late 2013.
The suspects, a father and his son, were arrested by Hesse police on June 19. They allegedly tried to extort millions from the family of the former Formula 1 driver.
However, it is “Markus F”, one of the guards responsible for Schumacher’s security, who is thought to be the mastermind, attempting to obtain no less than 15 million euros!
Markus F’s role reportedly involved converting private family photos into digital files before transferring them to “Yilmaz T” and his son “Daniel L”, who were strangers to the Schumacher family, to facilitate the blackmail.
According to the prosecution, the suspects told family members they had files that the Schumacher family might be interested in keeping private. They then threatened to publish them on the darknet and were stopped “just in time” by German justice.
The two men, “Yilmaz T” and “Daniel L”, aged 30 and 53, also sent documents to the Schumacher family to prove they were indeed in possession of these files and photos. The photos in question are said to depict Schumacher following his skiing accident.
General Prosecutor Wolf-Tilman Baumert confirmed in a statement that the documents held by the blackmailers included, among other things, photographic files related to the private life of the Schumacher family.
The same prosecutor also stated, “For reasons of investigative tactics, we do not wish to currently provide additional information on what exactly can be seen in the photos.”
