Haas F1 aims to unlock performance gaps after a solid point finish at Suzuka, with a focus on improving for Bahrain.

Ayao Komatsu is pleased with Haas F1’s ability to secure a point during the race in Japan. The team’s principal praised his staff for handling the race’s challenges, including some new developments that weren’t fully refined.

“It was an excellent effort by everyone to help Ollie finish 10th and score a point,” said Komatsu. “It’s only one point, but it makes a huge difference, and it’s a well-deserved reward for all the hard work.”

“We knew it would be a tough challenge, especially after the issues we faced in Melbourne, but the new components we brought to Suzuka performed well. The engineering team worked tirelessly over the three days to find the right setup to optimize tire management and qualifying.”

The Japanese team principal acknowledged that the lack of tire degradation made it impossible for Esteban Ocon to make up positions, as he finished 18th: “Tire management was excellent, and communication was spot on. With Ollie, we maximized everything we could.”

“With Esteban starting from 18th, overtaking was difficult in a one-stop race, so there wasn’t much we could do. The gaps were small, so we need to understand why Esteban struggled on Saturday and then analyze the race data to try and place both cars higher in Bahrain.”
