Bearman’s Six-Session F1 Audition Begins

Ollie Bearman starts six critical practice sessions with Haas F1, aiming to secure a 2025 race seat. This comprehensive evaluation will determine his future in Formula 1.

Haas F1 Team Principal Ayao Komatsu is set to begin an extensive evaluation process for Ollie Bearman, as the young Briton is a strong contender for a 2025 seat.

The American team has both seats open, with Nico Hülkenberg opting to join the Audi F1 project and Kevin Magnussen reaching the end of his contract.

Bearman, who had already impressed Komatsu last year during various tests with Haas F1, also made a notable impact in a Grand Prix, replacing Carlos Sainz at Ferrari in Saudi Arabia.

Komatsu will further assess Bearman during six free practice sessions, the first of which is scheduled for today at Imola.

“We have six Free Practice 1 sessions with him, and it’s a golden opportunity for us to work with him, evaluate how he performs, understand his strengths and weaknesses, and determine where we can develop him and work together if we decide to take him on. It’s truly an ideal scenario for a genuine job interview.”

“In the sessions he’s had with us so far, everything has gone well. I don’t wish for any misfortune on the car or anything, but at some point, he will face obstacles and situations that don’t suit him—whether it’s a car issue, a yellow or red flag, or something else.”

“It’s about how he handles these challenges, being in a compromised situation, and how he remains focused and behaves in a way that he can still make the best of it.”

“This is part of the training. At some point, he will reach these heights with media attention, especially if he aims to drive for Ferrari one day.”

“It’s only fair to evaluate how he manages all situations. Of course, we will work with him and support him as a team, but he will have to face hundreds of these situations.”

“It’s happening very quickly for him, but it’s probably good to have these free practice sessions. He has six now. Let’s say if he doesn’t handle things as well as he should this weekend, he’ll have Barcelona to correct it immediately.”

“But I have full confidence in him, based on how he performed with us in Mexico and Abu Dhabi, as well as in Saudi Arabia with Ferrari.”

“Every time he’s faced a new challenge, he has risen to it and handled it quite impressively, so I have complete confidence.”
