Oliver Bearman left disappointed in Miami after timing issues denied him a second run during the opening Sprint qualifying session.
Esteban Ocon wasn’t entirely satisfied with his performance in Sprint Qualifying at the Miami Grand Prix, finishing 12th overall. Still, the Haas driver sees encouraging signs of progress, especially after a tough weekend in Jeddah just two weeks ago.
“It wasn’t the perfect session. We missed out on SQ3 by about three-tenths. I ran wide in the final corner, and while that wouldn’t have made up all the time, we could’ve been a lot closer,” Ocon said after the Sprint Shootout.
“The car’s definitely performing better than it did in Jeddah, so that’s a positive. There’s still room for improvement, and we’ll need to make the most of tomorrow to unlock more pace. It’s better, but we’re not quite there yet.”
Looking ahead to the Sprint, Ocon hopes to gather valuable data for Sunday’s race. “The goal now is to understand tire degradation, especially on the softer compounds, and see if the car has stronger race pace than it showed in qualifying.”
Meanwhile, teammate Oliver Bearman left the session frustrated. The young Brit was unable to complete a second flying lap in SQ1, missing the chance to improve his time.
“It was tough out there, and I only got one lap in. We missed the flag at the end, which is unfortunate. We need to analyze what went wrong,” Bearman explained. “I didn’t really get a feel for the car—I only had that one lap to go on.”
