Audi Sauber F1 Takeover

Audi’s Full Takeover of Sauber Signals F1 Ambitions

02/03/2024

Audi sets sights on a 100% Sauber acquisition, a key move for its 2026 Formula 1 entry, signaling robust commitment and strategic alignment.

Audi aims for a complete 100% acquisition of Sauber for its F1 project, marking “a significant milestone on the path to Audi’s entry into Formula 1.” Appears to be accelerating its commitment to join Formula 1 by 2026 rather than backing down.

Recent discussions hinted at new turmoil within the top management of the German manufacturer, part of the Volkswagen group, yet Sauber team representative Alessandro Alunni Bravi has reaffirmed “Audi group’s strong commitment.”

Indeed, Audi decided to enter F1 by securing a 75% stake in the Swiss team Sauber at the end of 2022, with a portion of the equity already transferred.

Now, Bloomberg reports that Audi is in fact fast-tracking its plans, aiming to acquire full ownership of Sauber.

When asked about this, a Sauber spokesperson stated that Audi’s acquisition is “a significant milestone on the path to Audi’s entry into Formula 1 in 2026, for which the Sauber group will be the strategic partner of the brand and its factory team.”

“We will not further comment on the team’s shareholder structure at this time,” he added.

Sauber currently races in F1 officially under the name “Stake F1 Team Kick Sauber.”
