Audi finalizes 100% acquisition of Sauber, marking a significant step in its commitment to F1 racing by 2026.
Audi has indeed acquired 100% of the Sauber team, with several authoritative sources now insisting that there is no longer any doubt about the VW-owned brand’s commitment to enter Formula 1 by 2026.
Last weekend, we reported on information demonstrating that, despite months of uncertainty surrounding the F1 project and changes in leadership, Audi is not only still committed but is further strengthening that commitment.
Audi had already purchased a 25 percent stake in the Hinwil-based team and initially planned to increase it to 75 percent by 2026.
However, Audi has in fact negotiated to now become the 100 percent owner. The complete acquisition has already been realized. Audi finalized the transaction in recent days.
On the technical side, engineers at the Audi factory in Neuburg an der Donau are already working at full capacity, and all components of the power unit – V6, electric motor, battery, and control electronics – have been on the test benches for some time.
Moreover, Audi Sport’s technical director, Oliver Hoffmann (photo), is now officially a member of Sauber’s board of directors, registered in the Swiss commercial register.
Audi and Sauber have not yet officially communicated about the completion of this acquisition. Sauber will race under the name of Stake F1 Team in 2024 and 2025.
