Alonso is hopeful of scoring points in Qatar after a strong Sprint Qualifying, with both he and Stroll showing improvement.
Aston Martin F1 showed some improvement in Qatar on Friday, and Fernando Alonso is satisfied with his final 11th place. The Spaniard hopes to get back into the points after a series of disappointing results for his team.
“The Sprint Qualifying went better this evening in Qatar. We were very comfortable in SQ1 and just missed out on SQ3,” said the two-time world champion.
“The high-speed nature and track temperature seem to suit our package a bit better. We have the opportunity to fight for some points in the Sprint tomorrow and, hopefully, in the race on Sunday.”
Lance Stroll lamented a poor timing in SQ2, finishing 14th, but was pleased to have comfortably progressed through SQ1: “It’s good to be back on track here in Qatar. SQ1 was good, and I was happy with the laps I did, but we encountered some traffic on my final run in SQ2, which didn’t help.”
“I lost some time because of that, and the margins are obviously very tight. The car’s performance wasn’t too bad today, but I think it will be difficult to overtake in the Sprint race tomorrow. There’s still plenty of action this weekend, so there will be other opportunities.”
